Of all the seasons, autumn on the west coast of Scotland is probably our favourite. The rich colours and contrasts between the golden trees, burnt orange hillsides and early snow on the high tops is incredible. Another bonus is that most of the hordes of summer tourists have gone. In fact it’s a great time to explore the west coast and Isle of Skye.
Stationmaster’s Lodge holiday accommodation is a great base for a trip over the bridge to Skye. In around 20 minutes you can be on the misty Isle. Take in the stunning mountain scenery of the spectacular Cuillin Mountains, you can enjoy a low level walk to the fairy pools or take a hike up into Coire Laggan in the Cuillin Mountains, starting from Glenbrittle. There’s no need scale the peaks just take in the incredible views from this high mountain coire.
Explore Portree, the capital of Skye and enjoy a seafood lunch at one of its fine eateries or enjoy a distillery tour at Talisker. One of our favourite places on Skye is the wild, wild north and the dramatic Quirang mountains, made famous by the BFG and Stardust blockbuster movies 
Foodies could treat themselves to a gourmet meal at the world-famous Three Chimneys Restaurant, or sample some local ales and a ploughman’s lunch at the more modest Stein Inn, Skye’s oldest pub, at Lochbay. If you’re into history and castles, take time and go for a visit to Dunvegan Castle, the stronghold of the Chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years.
Skye is famous for its eagles, sea eagles in particular. Go for one of the many local coastal walks and don’t forget your binoculars. Explore Talisker Bay with its striking beach of black and white sand and towering cliffs. It’s perfect for a stroll.

Of course there are plenty of other attractions closer to the lodge. If you love fresh seafood then head down to Kyle of Lochalsh where you can enjoy amazing lunches at the waterside restaurant. Located on the station platform and owned by a local fisherman’s family much of the seafood comes from Loch Carron overlooked by the lodge so the delicious queenies, langoustines and crab can’t get any fresher than this. Go for a wander around nearby Plockton, one of the most scenic villages in Scotland. Go for a boat trip or just enjoy a walk along the coast.
Explore nearby Eileen Donan Castle, the most photographed castle in Scotland. This iconic castle is a must see and only a short drive and the advantage of being so close is that you can go and take photographs  early in the morning or early evening when the tourist depart!
Take a drive along North Coast 500 and take in some of that spectacular west coast scenery. You can pick up the route just north of the Lodge.
The hardest part is deciding where to go, you are really spoilt of choice in this incredible part of the Scottish Highlands. You can be sure that Stationmaster's Lodge offers a great base for your west coast highland holiday.
