What do they say, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION? Our holiday house Stationmasters Lodge has an incredible lochside location on the shores of Loch Carron in Scotland. This is a sensational part of the West Highlands, with amazing loch and mountain scenery. It’s feels remote but is easily accessible from the main road from Fort William to the Island of Skye. In fact, stationmasters Lodge is a great base for exploring nearby village of plockton and the nearby magical Isle of Skye. You can be on Skye within 20 minutes’ drive from the house and visit the capital of Skye Portree within an hour or so. Skye is the largest of the Inner Hebrides lying off the west coast of Scotland. With a distinctly Highland feel – stunning mountain scenery, dramatic sea lochs, incredible geology and an abundance of wildlife. It a place full of history and a land of legends. It’s a great place for food too and boasts a fantastic distillery (Talisker) at Carbost. There is so much to see and do including The Old Man of Storr - a magnificent pinnacle of rock, The mysterious Quaraing and amazing scenery and Faerie Glen - a truly magical gem used in the filming of Stardust. Stromeferry (no ferry!) overlooks the narrowest part of Loch Carron and for many years, there was a ferry service here to North Strome. This provided a link with the first road built in 1809 along the north side of the loch. The new bypass made the ferry service redundant and it stopped operating in 1970. Strome Ferry used to be a busy hub when the ferry operated with long queues for the ferry in the summer months. Today Stromeferry is a small sleepy village with a train station to Kyle of Lochalsh or Inverness. Our house was in fact the Stationmasters’s House , it well over 100 years old and had enjoyed a colourful history. In 1883, Stromeferry was the scene of a Sabbatarian riots in which over 200 fishermen took possession of the railway station to prevent the unloading of fish on a Sunday! No riots today just a peaceful setting and place to relax and watch the sun set. We are currently making a number of improvements to our holiday house, all of the windows have just been replaced and we are hoping to install a new kitchen. Stationmaster’s Lodge is a large traditional stone house packed full of character with amazing lochside views. It’s a great base for exploring the stunning west highlands and the Island of Skye. You can explore many west coast attractions like Eilean Donan Castle and Plockton or just relax wildlife watching, or soaking in the loch views from beside the cosy fire. Our spectacular large holiday house accommodation is perfect for groups and family gatherings sleeping up to 17 in 8 bedrooms. Dogs are also welcome too! With prices from £250 a night its great value for groups. Why not get in touch to book your Scottish west coast holiday for 2017?
